StormChaser was the first major project to come from the Florida Tech Rocketry Club.
Serving as the Chief Engineer for the clubs engineering team, my roles included being a project manager as well as providing oversight on the design and build process.Â
This rocket was to show students were capable of designing and flying an amateur rocket and apply what they learned in the classroom to a physical project.
The rocket was designed to fly under the 50 foot altitude limit placed by the FAA in order to fly without having to get a license.
Although there were multiple problems with the rocket resulting in a failed flight, it taught multiple lessons along the way like keeping a project organized, seeing the feasibility of ideas, and making sure to test every component before flight to ensure it is ready to do its job.
The lessons learned from this are being applied to the second version of this rocket to get the best results from student designs and manufacturing.
